When we pulled into Tall Chief RV & Camping Resort, we first noticed the tall, surrounding trees and smiled. This was going to be a place to really unwind and enjoy our downtime when not sightseeing in Seattle and other nearby cities.
Arriving at our site, I smiled wider. It was spacious and private. And it wasn’t the exception. Up and down the road, one site after the next backed up to the forest or other natural areas and were larger than those at most campgrounds.
Venturing out to explore the campground, we wandered into the family lodge smack in the middle of karaoke with E.J. the D.J. and his accompanying saxophone. Guests were having a great time, so we joined right in the fun and hung out there the rest of the evening. Staff brought in doughnuts for all, and the night was filled with laughter and applause.
In the daytime, I headed out again to check out more of the common areas. Once I saw the pool, I let the kids know they could throw on their suits, because we were definitely going swimming! To say it’s inviting is an understatement. It’s gorgeous, large, super-clean and warm (heated to a comfortable 82 degrees Fahrenheit). So amazing.
The spa felt luxuriously relaxing, and the sauna is a great bonus not usually offered at campgrounds.
Located in the pool building are additional showers, an adult lounge, and a family activity room, all incredibly well-maintained. Behind the building, guests can find basketball and tennis courts.
The playground nearby is in excellent condition and was great fun for the kiddos. This resort campground does a phenomenal job of making sure everything is in good working order.
And those who enjoy miniature golf will appreciate the course at Tall Chief. I tried this with our six-year-old, and we had a great time together. No holes-in-one for me this time around, though!
Whenever we visit a resort, we research things to do nearby. Tall Chief happens to be situated in a prime location near some really incredible places. Seattle, of course, is the biggest local city and is not a far drive at all, about 40 minutes by car. We visited it twice and took in all sorts of well-known sites, such as Pike Place Market, the Space Needle, Museum of Flight, and the first Starbucks.
Closer to the resort, and with plenty of parking and easy access, is Snoqualmie Falls. Hiking down to the base is well worth the time, as it is only a 1/2 mile trek on a path through tall pines and red cedars surrounded by green ferns and moss on the forest floor. While Tall Chief does not have sewer hook-ups, they do have conveniently located dump stations and honey wagon service available. For us, we thought it was absolutely worth the trade-off of monitoring our water usage. The amenities available combined with such a lush natural setting and friendly staff made this one of the most enjoyable stays anywhere we’ve been for the last 7,000 miles. The pace at Tall Chief was just right for our family.
