We didn’t know what to expect when we pulled into San Francisco RV Resort. Many of the Thousand Trails and Encore resorts, though beautiful, tend to be off the beaten path. Not so at this Encore resort! When visiting an amazing place like San Francisco, I generally prefer to be near enough to easily get into the city yet just far enough away to be able to enjoy peaceful, quiet nights and some true downtime during our rest days. Located in a beautiful oceanside town aptly named Pacifica, San Francisco RV Resort delivers on both counts.
Though the sites are small and set up much like a parking lot with pedestals, this resort boasts approximately 300 yards of prime, oceanfront property. If you book a premium spot, you’ll get to enjoy beautiful sunsets every night right from your front window. But even without an upgraded site, guests are welcome to walk the length of the oceanfront or enjoy a picnic on one of the many tables overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Due to erosion, a line of fencing prevents guests from getting dangerously close to the edge. But we are still so close that I was able to carry on a conversation with a hang glider who was swooping back and forth over the ocean just beyond the cliff’s edge. How often does THAT happen?!
San Francisco RV Resort offers very well-maintained amenities such as a pool, spa, and playground right in the heart of the park and a clubhouse with a ping pong table and picture-window view of the ocean.
I was surprised at how many washers and dryers were available for a park this size (all in good order) and was happy to see a bookshelf and plenty of seating for those waiting on laundry.
The office and store are conveniently attached to the laundry area and provide coffee, tea, and hot chocolate with a sofa, desk, and dining table. And did I mention the free wifi in both areas? No one will get bored waiting for laundry at this facility.
Additional perks include a community garden and a BBQ area with a couple of grills. Plenty of guest parking surrounds the pool and office, and there is no additional charge for visitors to stop by for the day.
Many guests walk their dogs along the oceanfront area of the property or the dog walk. Though leashes are required within the resort, two local areas (a public beach one mile down the road and a state beach four miles away) allow dogs to run free.
As for area attractions, the Golden Gate Bridge on the far end of San Francisco is only 35 minutes away. Muir Woods National Monument is just a short distance across it (can I say ‘breath taking?!”), and San Francisco is an easy 30 minute drive. Once there, tourists often head towards Fisherman’s Wharf, Union Square, or Lombard Street (the “crookedest street in the world”) and catch rides on double-decker buses, cable cars, or trolleys. Our family enjoyed our “escape” to Alcatraz, but be prepared to book tickets in advance. The ferry rides to the island sell out quickly.
Pacifica, with its lush green mountains, beaches, and expansive views of the ocean, also has a lot to offer. Aside from natural beauty, there is a post office, Safeway (grocery store), barbershop, and restaurants all within a two minute drive of the resort. Paisano’s Pizza and Camelot’s Fish and Chips are local favorites. A little further down the road near the beach is a day spa, specialty shopping, and even a Grocery Outlet, which is a bit easier on the budget.
If you’ve ever hoped to visit the “Golden City,” San Francisco RV Resort offers a great location with spectacular views of the Pacific. You’ll appreciate the serene sounds of the ocean lulling you to sleep after a day of hiking or sightseeing in the city.
Many thanks to San Francisco RV Resort for supporting our stay. As always, all opinions are my own.
